Three cities in Eastern Indonesia have new digital literacy centers

Efforts to strengthen digital literacy in Eastern Indonesia have increased with the opening of three digital learning centers in Kupang, Lombok, and Bima.

The facility, managed by Markoding (Yayasan Daya Kreasi Anak Bangsa), was officially launched in collaboration with HP and aims to improve basic technology and artificial intelligence (AI) skills for women and young people in areas that still face limited access to technology.

HP Indonesia President Director Juliana Cen said in a statement on Thursday that digital skills are an important asset for people to compete in the future.

"It's important for the entire community to experience digital progress, and we hope this initiative will support more women and young people to build the capabilities they need," she said.

Inequality in digital access remains a national challenge, especially outside major cities. Studies show that only one in five Indonesian women has internet access, while 80 percent of children in rural areas lack access to computers. Furthermore, a quarter of Indonesian youth are listed as Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET), making the need for community-based digital skills development even more pressing.
