A study conducted by researchers from Sechenov University in Russia revealed how obesity and its types affect the increased risk of developing cancer

The university press service reported that the study's findings showed that weight gain alone does not necessarily lead to an increased risk of cancer; rather, the most important factor is the type of obesity . Obesity linked to genetic factors does not significantly affect the risk of developing tumors, while obesity resulting from the accumulation of fat in the abdominal area over long periods is more dangerous, as it is often associated with cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders, in addition to an increased likelihood of developing cancer. The same applies to obesity accompanied by a loss of muscle mass.

The researchers pointed out that the risk of developing cancers increases significantly when abdominal obesity persists for more than ten years, especially if it is accompanied by two or more factors of metabolic syndrome, such as high blood pressure or disorders of carbohydrate and fat metabolism.

The study also found that people who are overweight or obese in their early stages and do not take appropriate treatment measures are more likely to develop cancer than those who are more severely obese but undergo regular treatment and constantly monitor their health indicators.

Scientists have confirmed that effective management of chronic diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension, significantly reduces the risk of developing cancer. They emphasized the need to prioritize individuals with long-standing abdominal obesity and uncontrolled blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels for intensive medical monitoring.
