In a discussion with media crew in Jakarta, Wednesday, the Minister of Transportation said that the accumulated movement of public transportation passengers was calculated from D-7 (December 18, 2025) to D+5 Christmas.
He stated that during the 2025 Christmas and New Year's holiday period from D-7 to D+5, the number of Christmas and New Year's holiday passengers increased by 6.57 percent to 14,951,649 people compared to the previous year's 14,029,327 people during the same period.
"The number of people using public transportation during the Christmas and New Year holidays this time experienced a significant increase of 6.57 percent," said the Minister of Transportation.
The details for that year recorded from the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year Transportation Center Post were 5,380,544 train passengers; 1,244,308 sea passengers; 2,578,163 ferry passengers; 3,496,901 air passengers; and 2,251,733 land passengers.
According to Dudy, the cumulative increase in the number of public transport passengers is an indicator that the stimulus policy of reducing or discounting transportation fares mandated by President Prabowo Subianto has been well utilized by the public.
"Going forward, we really hope the number will continue to increase until the end of the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year transportation period," he said.
In general, the Minister of Transportation also stated that the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year transportation program has been running smoothly and according to plan.
However, he emphasized that the important thing that still needs attention is the safety aspect.
"We regret the recent number of accidents resulting in fatalities. We are working to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the future, and we hope the public can travel safely and smoothly," said the Minister of Transportation.
Meanwhile, regarding the upcoming return flow, the Minister of Transportation asked all transportation stakeholders across all modes to prepare well.
The Minister of Transportation instructed that areas prone to congestion be mapped and service readiness at transportation hubs, such as terminals, stations, ports, and airports be strengthened.
