The Ministry of Public Works (PU) revealed that 12 bridges in Aceh Province have returned to operation with emergency structures as part of progress in handling post-disaster connectivity in Sumatra.
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo emphasized that maintaining connectivity is the government's top priority in emergency disaster situations, given the strategic role of roads and bridges as the main drivers of community activities and logistics distribution.
"Connectivity is the lifeblood of society. In a disaster, the most important thing is to ensure access remains open so that public mobility, humanitarian aid, and logistics distribution are not disrupted," said Dody in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Public Works continues to repair national bridges that were temporarily cut off by the flash floods in Aceh Province. Of the 16 bridges repaired, 12 have been restored to their original locations, although they still use makeshift structures, ensuring uninterrupted traffic.
The Ministry of Public Works (PU) through the National Road Implementation Center (BPJN) in Aceh has accelerated the handling using various emergency response methods, from installing Bailey Bridges to utilizing alternative roads.
This approach allows access to remain functional while awaiting permanent bridge maintenance, so that inter-regional connectivity, community mobility, and logistics distribution can continue.
The twelve national bridges that have been restored to service using emergency structures include the Kreung Tingkeum Bridge, located in Bireuen City on the Bireuen-North Aceh border (East Crossing). A 63-meter Bailey bridge was installed on the damaged span and became operational on December 27, 2025, with the Awe Geutah alternative route having been operational earlier on December 18, 2025.
The Alue Kulus Bridge, located on the Bireuen-Bener Meriah-Central Aceh border, serves as a connecting bridge. Emergency measures involved filling in half the roadway, allowing the emergency bridge to be operational again on December 18, 2025.
The Kreung Rongka Bridge is located on the Bireuen-Bener Meriah-Central Aceh (Central Crossing) border. Emergency measures include backfilling and the installation of box culverts, and it will be operational starting December 21, 2025.
