Paris Saint-Germain waited 79 minutes before their player Bradley Barcola managed to score the only goal of the match.
Barcola received a pass from Ousmane Dembele in a quick counter-attack, allowing him to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper and shoot as the Auxerre keeper came out, and the ball went into the net.
With this victory, Paris Saint-Germain reaches first place with 45 points, two points ahead of Lens, who have a tough match against Marseille this Saturday evening at the latter's stadium.
Auxerre, on the other hand, remains in a difficult position after its tally was frozen at 12 points in 17th place, only ahead of bottom-placed Metz on goal difference.
Paris Saint-Germain faces a tough match against Newcastle next Wednesday, in a final attempt to secure their qualification among the top eight in the Champions League, after stumbling with a 1-2 loss to Sporting Lisbon in the last round.
