Reuters quoted officials who spoke on condition of anonymity as saying that delegations from at least 20 countries, including several heads of state, are expected to attend the meeting scheduled for Washington, D.C., which will be chaired by Trump on February 19.
Details of Trump’s plans for the first meeting of the Gaza Peace Council have not been previously published.
On January 16, Washington announced, in a statement issued by the White House, the adoption of the transitional management structures in Gaza, namely: the Peace Council, the Gaza Executive Council, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, and the International Stabilization Force.
On January 23, Trump signed documents establishing the Peace Council in Davos, Switzerland. The UN Security Council approved the council's creation as part of Trump's Gaza plan.
This comes two years after a genocidal war waged by Tel Aviv in the Gaza Strip with American support, on October 8, 2023, which left more than 72,000 Palestinian martyrs, more than 171,000 wounded, and massive destruction affecting 90% of the infrastructure, with reconstruction costs estimated at about $70 billion.
