West Bank: Injuries, arrests, and displacement of families in Israeli raids and settler attacks
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said its crews dealt with a young man in Ramallah Governorate who was shot in the thigh with live ammunition by occupation soldiers in the town of Al-Ram, north of occupied Jerusalem, and he was transferred to the hospital.
In Nablus, in the northern occupied West Bank, three Palestinians were injured, one by gunfire and two by beatings, during an attack by settlers on the town of Talfit. The one who was shot was taken to the hospital, while the other two were treated on site.
On the other hand, the Israeli occupation forces launched a large-scale raid campaign in various areas of the occupied West Bank, resulting in the arrest of 24 Palestinians.
Local sources reported the arrest of seven Palestinians, including two brothers and their father, in the Dhannaba suburb of Tulkarm in the northern West Bank. Israeli forces also arrested eight Palestinians after raiding the town of Jaba'a, south of Jenin, and storming their homes.
In the Salfit governorate, five Palestinians from the town of Qarawat Bani Hassan were arrested, while in the Hebron governorate in the southern West Bank, four others were arrested after their homes were raided and searched.
The occupation authorities usually do not announce the reasons for the arrests, which come in the context of what they call "security campaigns," while official Palestinian data indicates that the number of prisoners in the occupation prisons has exceeded 9,300 prisoners, including 66 women and 350 children.
Forced displacement
In a related context, seven Palestinian families began dismantling their homes in the Bedouin community of “Al-Mayta” in the northern Jordan Valley, northeast of the occupied West Bank, in preparation for leaving, due to the continued attacks by the Israeli occupation and settlers.
Mutaz Bisharat, the official in charge of the settlement file in Tubas Governorate, said that the families began dismantling their homes made of tin and tents, in light of the escalating attacks that included beatings, arson, theft of livestock, prevention of grazing, and destruction of agricultural crops. He pointed out that the departure of the families will make the community empty of its Palestinian residents.
He added that settlers set fire to uninhabited tents in the community on Thursday/Friday night, as part of a series of ongoing violations, forcing residents to live in a constant state of fear and anticipation, without any protection provided to them.
Since the start of the war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, the Israeli occupation, through its army and settlers, has escalated its attacks in the occupied West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, including killing, arrest, displacement and settlement expansion.
According to official Palestinian data, these attacks resulted in the martyrdom of at least 1,112 Palestinians, the injury of about 11,500 others, in addition to the arrest of about 22,000.
Settler attacks have also led to the displacement of 125 Palestinian families, amid a variety of violations including physical violence, burning of fields, uprooting of trees, preventing farmers from accessing their lands, seizing property, and demolishing homes and agricultural facilities.
The Israeli Security Cabinet recently approved decisions aimed at bringing about changes in the legal and civil reality in the occupied West Bank, in order to strengthen Israeli control over it.
Palestinians warn that these measures pave the way for the formal annexation of the occupied West Bank, which undermines the possibility of establishing an independent Palestinian state, in accordance with UN resolutions.
