The General Chairperson of the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI), Yenny Wahid, said that former Indonesian rock climbing head coach Hendra Basir is welcome to defend himself in court if he claims he is not guilty in the alleged physical violence and sexual harassment case.
He stated that the FPTI fact-finding team (TPF) was working to gather evidence related to the violations, while from a criminal legal perspective, five athletes had reported to the National Police Headquarters as victims of these despicable actions.
"The alleged perpetrator should face the legal process. If he feels he is innocent, it can be proven legally, and that is beyond the FPTI's jurisdiction because the victim (athlete) has dared to take this case to the legal realm, and that indicates something very serious," said Yenny at the Indonesian rock climbing team's national training ground in Bekasi City, West Java, on Wednesday.
He explained that the alleged perpetrator had admitted to using harsh and firm methods to train the students. Furthermore, no sexual harassment was committed.
"Yes, just face the consequences of what he did to the athletes, because I think all the allegations against him must be faced legally," he said.
Yenny emphasized that regarding the victims' police reports, FPTI only assisted by providing legal assistance to the victims. As an organization, it has no legal authority to file a report, as it concerns the athletes' privacy.
