Indonesian women's tennis player Janice Tjen suffered a bitter defeat in the first round of the 2026 WTA 1000 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California, USA, after battling.
Janice, who won the first set, was forced into a rubber set and a tie-break in the deciding set. The 23-year-old Jakarta-born tennis player was unable to fend off Jaqueline Cristian, who won 6-4, 4-6, 6-7(8).
In the first set, Janice won 73.3 percent of first-serve points and 63.6 percent of second-serve points, according to WTA statistics. She also dominated on returns to lead the match.
Cristian, currently ranked 35th in the world, four spots above Janice, dominated the second set with a powerful serve, hitting two aces and hitting 70.4 percent of his first serves. He also converted all two break point opportunities to level the match in the second set.
