Press reports indicate that Frenchman Hervé Renard, the current coach of the Tunisian national team, intends to leave his position as soon as the curtain falls on the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.

Tunisia will play their first match under Hervé Renard against Japan on Sunday, in the second round of Group F, before concluding the round of 48 by playing against the Netherlands on Friday, June 26.

The Tunisian Football Federation made a swift decision to dismiss former coach Sabri Lamouchi from his position, following the national team’s heavy and disappointing 1-5 defeat against Sweden in the first round of the group stage, and Renard was contracted to complete the journey.

Renard is looking to quickly organize the team's affairs and put his technical touches in place in order to achieve a positive result against Japan, with the aim of compensating for the previous loss and reviving the hopes of Tunisian fans in competing for a qualifying ticket to the next round of the World Championship.

According to news reported by journalist Mathieu Trabelsi on his "X" platform account, Renard is extremely frustrated by what reports have described as a "poisonous atmosphere" within the corridors of the Tunisian Football Federation.

Sources confirm that the relationship between the coach and the federation officials has deteriorated sharply, reaching a point of complete communication breakdown between the two parties.

This development has raised widespread concerns about a state of instability behind the scenes of the national team, with some reports describing the situation inside the "Eagles of Carthage" camp during their World Cup journey as "absolute chaos".

He pointed out that: “This position comes despite attempts by the Tunisian government and the presidency to grant him all the powers he wants, but he is still holding firm to his decision, which is to leave next July.”

Renard is considered one of the most successful coaches on the African scene, thanks to his reputation for transforming national teams and achieving impressive results in major tournaments. However, recent developments indicate that administrative crises "off the pitch" have cast a dark shadow over Tunisia's preparations for the championship.

Despite the lack of official confirmation from Renard or the Tunisian Federation so far, speculation is growing stronger day by day that the current World Cup will be the last stop in the French coach's journey with the Tunisian team.
