DRC: Doctors go on strike amid the Ebola crisis

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, doctors' unions have announced a strike starting on June 11.

The medical profession is demanding, among other things, a salary increase, better working conditions and increased resources allocated to the health sector.

According to the trade unions, the strike affects public health facilities throughout the country.

This outburst of discontent comes amid the Ebola crisis. The northeastern provinces have been hit by a new strain of the virus, which the country has been trying to control since May 15th.

The unions have assured that emergency services will continue to operate in order to guarantee care for the most vulnerable patients.

Nevertheless, the mobilization raises concerns about its impact on the operational capacities of the health system.
