The historic Glodok Chinatown area in Tamansari, continues to beautify itself to strengthen its position as one of the leading tourist destinations in the capital.
Mayor Iin Mutmainnah said that one of the efforts being made is to hold a night culinary festival involving Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises as well as an entertainment stage with a local cultural nuance, while still maintaining the original characteristics of Glodok Chinatown.
"Glodok Chinatown has become a tourist icon . That's why we're continuing to make the place more comfortable for visitors. We'll certainly maintain its sustainability, its ornaments, and its distinctive characteristics," Iin told ANTARA after attending a culinary festival in Glodok Chinatown on Saturday night.
Furthermore, as an initial step in the arrangement, Iin's team focused on evaluating several crucial aspects, starting from the parking system, security to cleanliness.
This is done through cross-sector coordination involving all local communities in the area.
According to Iin, the activation of this area is not only oriented towards extending the operating hours of MSMEs, but also providing a social interaction space for the wider community.
"This place doesn't just belong, but to all residents of DKI , and even those outside. We hope residents will come and enjoy the atmosphere here on afternoons or weekends, as the culinary offerings are plentiful and the place is comfortable," said the mayor, who recently completed a doctoral program in government.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Sub-agency, Sherly, added that the increasingly beautified Glodok Chinatown is also related to its integration with Kota Tua under one tourism area umbrella.
