PB PASI Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the breaking of the 17-year-old national record for the U-20 women's javelin throw by Papua Athletics Center (PAC) athlete Kresensia Mobok Ndiken is proof that Papuan athletic talent can develop if nurtured in a structured manner.
"This proves that Papua's natural talent can leapfrog if nurtured in a structured manner," Luhut said in a written statement.
Kresensia recorded a throw of 44.72 meters to win the silver medal at the 2026 ICTSI Philippine Athletics Championship at the New Clark City Athletic Stadium, Capas, Tarlac, Philippines, June 10–14.
The Merauke athlete's record surpassed Ayu Ariandani's national record of 43.20 meters, which had stood since 2009.
Luhut said this achievement also shows that the decentralized athletics development program through the Papua Athletics Center (PAC) is starting to have an impact on the achievements of regional athletes.
PAC brought home four medals from the event, namely two gold, one silver, and one bronze.
