Luis Diaz was very proud to score a goal and assist on his World Cup debut

Colombian national team player Luis Diaz said he was very proud after his dream of playing in the World Cup came true.

Diaz, who plays for Bayern Munich this season, marked his 2026 World Cup debut with a goal and an assist as his country defeated debutants Uzbekistan from Group K at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on Thursday.

"Today I'm fulfilling my childhood dream: playing in the World Cup for my national team and my country. And what could be more beautiful than contributing with a goal and an assist?" said Diaz, as quoted on the official FIFA.

The 29-year-old winger emerged as the best player on his debut after providing the assist for Daniel Munoz's first goal in the 40th minute and then getting on the scoresheet in the 65th minute to put Colombia back in front 2-1 after Abbosbek Fayzullaev had levelled the score five minutes earlier.

Colombia's victory in this match came in the final minutes, precisely in the 90+9 minute when Jaminton Campaz headed the ball from Cucho Hernandez's pass.
