Migrants deported from the USA expected in Central African Republic

The Central African Republic has agreed to receive migrants from other countries who were expelled from the United States.

US and Central African authorities discussed the matter in Bangui on May 18, according to sources who confirm that an agreement has been reached.

But the new agreement is already being challenged. On May 22, a US federal judge blocked the deportation of a Turkish national to Bangui. The date of the first migrant flights is not yet known.

The Central African Republic is led by Faustin-Archange Touadera, re-elected for a third term following the elections last January. The country is frequently plagued by political violence orchestrated by numerous armed groups.

The Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon, among others, have already concluded migration agreements with the Trump administration.
