The Perbanas Institute men's team has earned the right to represent Indonesian universities in the 2027 Asia University Basketball League (AUBL) after winning the 2026 Campus League Basketball Season 1.
Perbanas became the first men's champion of the Campus League Basketball after defeating Satya Wacana Christian University Salatiga 47-45 through extra time in the final of The Nationals at UPH Basketball Court, Tangerang, Banten, Saturday.
"I'm speechless, and I just want to thank God for coming third in the regional standings and winning," said Perbanas Institute men's team coach Zulfahrizal in a written statement received.
Zulfahrizal said the victory was proof of his team's unyielding mentality, despite having to endure a tight match that went to extra time.
"We finally secured victory after forcing our opponents into overtime. That's when we were able to demonstrate the Perbanas mentality, the champion mentality, and the giant had awakened from its long slumber," he said.
Haikal, who also won the MVP title of Campus League Basketball Season 1 2026, said Perbanas was able to prove itself despite not coming as a seed.
"It's truly remarkable. Even though we weren't the top team and didn't have any IBL players, we were able to prove ourselves as champions at the Nationals. I also didn't expect my teammates to step up and keep fighting until the end," said Haikal.
Meanwhile, the women's title went to the University of Surabaya (Ubaya) after defeating Soegijapranata Catholic University (SCU) 59-51 in the final.
Ubaya faced pressure from SCU, who led in the first half, but the Surabaya-based team rallied in the third quarter, scoring 23 points. This momentum proved a turning point, as Ubaya maintained its lead until the end of the game.
Campus League CEO Ryan Gozali said the Campus League's inaugural basketball season is crucial for developing sustainable inter-campus sports competitions.
"Season 1 isn't just about finding a champion. The most important thing is building the foundation. We've seen tremendous enthusiasm from the campus, students, coaches, and all parties involved," said Ryan.
Campus League Basketball Season 1 2026 runs from April through regional phases in Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Samarinda, Bandung, before concluding with The Nationals in Tangerang on June 7-13.
