Portugal national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo admitted that the 1-1 draw against the Democratic Republic of Congo in their 2026 World Cup Group K match was not the start they wanted.
In the match held at Houston Stadium on Thursday, Portugal, who were touted as strong candidates for the title, were unable to win after Joao Neves' goal in the sixth minute was equalized by Yoane Wissa in the 45+5 minute.
"It's not the start we wanted, but it's far from over," Ronaldo said, as quoted from his official Instagram account on Thursday.
Ronaldo played the full match, which marked his sixth World Cup appearance since his debut in Germany in 2006.
This appearance saw the 41-year-old make his 229th appearance for Portugal since his first appearance for Os Navegadores (The Navigators) in August 2003.
