The 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature seven pairs of siblings participating, but less than half of them will play for the same national team.
The brothers playing in the same squad are defenders Lucas and Theo Hernandez from France, midfielders Laros and Deroy Duarte representing Cape Verde, and Leandro and Juninho Bacuna playing for Curacao.
Meanwhile, four other sets of brothers play for different teams. Brian Brobbey, a striker for Sunderland, plays for the Netherlands, while his brother, Derrick Luckassen, who has represented the Netherlands at youth level, has chosen to play for Ghana. Luckassen was only included in the Ghana squad at the last minute.
Then, Desire Doue chose to play for France, while his brother, Guela, chose to represent his father's native Ivory Coast. The two could even face each other in the knockout stages of the current quadrennial tournament.
Furthermore, John Souttar and his brother, Harry, were both born in Scotland. However, John chose to play for Scotland, while his brother, Harry, at 198 centimeters, became the tallest player ever to represent Australia.
Finally, Inaki and Nico Williams also play for different countries. Although both were born in Spain, Inaki chose to represent Ghana before the 2022 World Cup. Meanwhile, Nico chose to play for Spain, scoring in the 2-1 victory against England in the UEFA Euro 2024 final.
