The Bung Karno Festival invites residents to preserve historical and cultural memories

The  Provincial Government officially opened the 2026 Bung Karno Festival as an effort to encourage all elements of the community, especially the younger generation, to preserve historical memory and revive the nation's cultural values.

The event, which was held to commemorate Bung Karno Month, was attended directly by the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia and daughter of the Proclaimer, Megawati Soekarnoputri, the Governor and Deputy Governor of DKI, Pramono Anung and Rano Karno.

"Honoring Bung Karno means continuing his ideals, bringing Pancasila to life in action, and making culture the soul of the nation, not just stage decoration," said Rano when opening the Bung Karno Festival, at Proclamation Park.

In the opening, Rano, who is also the Chairperson of the Bung Karno Festival Executive Committee, emphasized the importance of June as a month full of historical value.

"In addition to commemorating Pancasila Day on June 1 and the birth of Bung Karno on June 6, this moment also serves as a space to remember the death of the Proclaimer on June 21," he said.

He further stated that Jakarta holds a special position as the stage for the proclamation and a miniature version of Indonesia. Therefore, Jakarta's development should not rely solely on physical and technological modernization, but must be balanced with noble character and a strong historical memory.

"Our task is not only to build a Jakarta with tall buildings, but also one with noble character and a noble soul. Because a city that forgets its history will lose its direction," he said.
