The Minister of Home Affairs encourages the DKPP to be active in preventing election violations

Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian urged the Election Organizers' Honorary Council (DKPP) to be active and strengthen efforts to prevent ethical violations in the implementation of elections, not only focusing on handling violations after they occur.

"A preventative approach needs to be considered. In my opinion, the DKPP should not only wait and prosecute ethical violations, but can also contribute to preventative efforts by addressing various factors that could potentially lead to violations," Tito said.

Tito made this statement while delivering a speech at the DKPP's 14th anniversary in Jakarta on Friday. He assessed that the agency needs to prioritize a preventative approach to minimize the potential for future violations.

"In the world of law enforcement, there is a doctrine known as keeping them out of jail , ensuring that people do not end up in prison," he said.

Therefore, he hopes that the DKPP, like other law enforcement agencies, will not just passively wait for reports or complaints and then prosecute.

"The success of an institution is not solely determined by the number of violations discovered or the number of decisions rendered, but rather by the prevention of these violations so that no one has to be punished," Tito said.

The Minister of Home Affairs assessed that the DKPP could take a more active role by identifying various factors that have the potential to give rise to ethical violations in the implementation of elections.

These preventive efforts can be carried out by providing input on various regulations related to the election system, including plans to revise the Election Law, the Regional Election Law and the Political Party Law.

In addition, strengthening the prevention and guidance system needs to be continuously carried out so that violations can be minimized ahead of the next general election and regional elections.
