Bogor Hornbills basketball player Fhirdan Guntara is optimistic about taking advantage of the Indonesian national basketball team selection opportunity to secure a spot in the squad projected to appear in the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers Round 1 in Malaysia.
"I'm very happy to be called up for the selection process. What player wouldn't want to represent their country? So, we should cherish this opportunity, even though it's still a selection process," he said.
The call-up, he continued, was special news, as he had long harbored a desire to wear the national team uniform. Furthermore, the opportunity came after he helped the Bogor Hornbills win the 2026 IBL.
Fhirdan admitted he immediately contacted his wife after receiving the news that he would be participating in the selection. The small forward was enthusiastic, having often told his wife about his dream of representing Indonesia in international competitions.
However, he does not want to set excessive expectations even though the call-up opens up the opportunity to make his debut with the Red and White National Team.
