Golkar Party DPP Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia believes the ideal threshold for a party to enter parliament is five percent.
In the past few days, discussions on the Election Bill have been rolling in the DPR, although Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said that discussions on the bill were still in the initial stages.
"Regarding the parliamentary threshold in our communication with various parties, some want it to be 6 percent, 7 percent, 5 percent, and some even below that. But perhaps the ideal number, 5 percent, is suitable," said Golkar Party Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia, answering reporters' questions when met on the sidelines of his activities at the Indonesian Presidential Palace.
However, Bahlil did not explain further his party's stance on the choice of a five percent parliamentary threshold.
Bahlil also did not answer questions regarding the meeting between the general chairmen of the political parties in the government coalition regarding the discussion on the parliamentary threshold.
So far, Golkar isn't the only party to suggest five percent as ideal. Several political parties currently holding seats in the House of Representatives have also proposed including the figure in the Election Bill. Among the parties that have openly mentioned the five percent figure are the Gerindra Party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle , the Prosperous Justice Party , and the Golkar Party.
Sugiono also said that the five percent figure had been discussed in a meeting of the general chairmen of the government coalition political parties that took place when he was accompanying President Prabowo Subianto on a visit to New Delhi, India last week.
Then, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle as conveyed by the Chairman of the Honorary Division of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle , Komarudin Watubun, considered the proposed five percent threshold to be ideal.
