Riau Islands Governor Ansar Ahmad stated that the Riau Islands' nature as an archipelagic province makes connectivity a key factor in development. The vast expanses of sea between the islands should not be viewed merely as a divider, but also as a space that connects communities and drives economic activity.
"Therefore, connectivity is a key factor in developing the Riau Islands," Ansar said after the Riau Islands' 24th anniversary ceremony at the Regional Government Building.
The Governor stated that the 24th anniversary of the Riau Islands is a momentum to evaluate the development journey and to examine the various challenges that still need to be resolved.
As a relatively young province, he said, Riau Islands has recorded various positive achievements in macroeconomic and social indicators. Several indicators even show Riau Islands' high ranking compared to other provinces in Sumatra.
He also emphasized that the development of the Riau Islands is not only about pursuing economic growth, but must also ensure stability and equality between regions.
The Riau Islands Provincial Government, he continued, continues to monitor the level of inequality through various indicators, including the Gini ratio, so that development interventions can be directed to areas and community groups that still require attention.
"Our performance report, based on macroeconomic achievements, serves as a benchmark for continuous evaluation. We are pursuing economic growth, but we must also maintain stability and balance disparities between regions," Ansar said.
