Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian said that the Riau Islands Province  is increasingly advanced in its 24th year, marked by various development leaps and improvements in public services.

"Previously, the Riau Islands were part of Riau Province. Batam even had only one sub-district, but after the expansion 24 years ago, today we see the Riau Islands growing in progress," Tito said during a visit to Penyengat Island, Tanjungpinang City.

He cited Batam as an example of being one of the developed regions in Indonesia, equipped with very adequate supporting facilities, ranging from comfortable places, wide roads, good malls and hotels, plus the quality of public services is very good and even recognized nationally.

Then, Bintan Regency also continues to develop, along with the increase in resort areas and the addition of the Galang Batang Special Industrial Zone .

"Tanjungpinang and other regencies/cities in the Riau Islands continue to show positive trends, but they need to be encouraged to progress further," Tito said.

The former Chief of Police continued that the Riau Islands have extraordinary potential, including being one of the most narrow choke points in the world, namely the Strait of Malacca.

Geographically, the Riau Islands also benefit greatly from its direct borders with neighboring countries, such as Malaysia and Singapore. This advantage provides the Riau Islands with a key advantage in attracting foreign investment and increasing international tourism.

"The question now is how to improve the quality of educated, healthy, and trained human resources (HR), so they can become players in their own villages," said Tito.

Meanwhile, Riau Islands Governor Ansar Ahmad stated that the provincial government continues to strengthen inter-island connectivity and promote equitable development to ensure that economic growth is felt by all residents on the 24th anniversary of the Riau Islands.
