This was stated in a joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of the US, Japan and South Korea after a trilateral meeting in New York.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held talks on the same day on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly High-Level Week.
“The United States reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the defense of Japan and the Republic of Korea, backed by America’s unmatched military power, including its nuclear capabilities, and reaffirms its extended deterrence commitment to Japan and the Republic of Korea,” the statement said, according to a State Department document.
“The US Secretary of State and the foreign ministers of the partners emphasized their commitment to robust security cooperation,” the statement added.
The three foreign ministers also emphasized a firm commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea, as well as the cessation of funding for the country's nuclear and missile programs, including funding from cyberspace.
In the statement, the parties concerned stated that "the path to dialogue remains open" and urged Pyongyang to return to the negotiating table to ensure stability on the Korean Peninsula.
They also agreed to address "economic pressures," strengthen early warning systems against supply chain disruptions, cooperate on artificial intelligence and semiconductors, and promote small modular nuclear reactors in third-country markets.
