France on maximum alert ahead of nationwide demonstrations on October 24

The French Minister Delegate for the Interior Ministry said the government is maintaining the maximum level of vigilance ahead of nationwide demonstrations planned for October 24.
He stated that the government was not ruling out any possibility in the coming days and weeks if a ban on demonstrations or cultural and sporting activities was deemed necessary.

Berger also said that the number of security personnel deployed on Saturday would increase by 20 percent compared to October 17.
"We have canceled the leave. We have also recalled personnel who were supposed to be on leave and are no longer taking leave," he explained.

Sentinelle troops will also be deployed, alongside special units such as the GIGN military unit and the RAID police unit.

Nationwide demonstrations took place on October 17 to protest the high cost of living and fuel prices. The demonstrations involved protesters from the Yellow Vest Movement and students.

Authorities reported damage to several businesses and public buildings, prompting the imposition of limited curfews in several cities.

Further demonstrations are planned for October 24. Meanwhile, unions have called for a nationwide strike and protests on November 5.

Amidst this situation, President Emmanuel Macron summoned all intelligence agencies to the Elysee Palace. This move came after the agencies came under scrutiny for their perceived failure to anticipate the mass mobilization on October 17.
