The sweltering summer in Switzerland has caused the picturesque Lake Brien to largely dry up, after the Dobs River once fed it. Water seeps through cracks in its limestone bed, revealing a dry riverbed.

The picturesque Lake Brienne lies on the French-Swiss border, but after an unusually hot summer, the lake has largely dried up, with locals even carving the word "HELP" on its bottom. This is due to the cessation of water flow from the 27-meter-high Doubs waterfall, which feeds into the lake, according to France 24.
According to experts, this situation is due to three factors: geological fissures through which water seeps into the ground, rainfall below normal levels, and recurring heat waves. June, July, and August of this year were the hottest months in Switzerland since records began in 1864.
The lake's water level is dropping at a rate of 20 to 22 centimeters per day. On October 1st, the water level reached 735.34 meters, 14.66 meters below the target level. At the lake's deepest point, the water level previously ranged between 25 and 30 meters, but it now does not exceed nine meters, where all the fish have gathered.
The shipping company had suspended all its services on July 1st, resulting in a loss of between 200 and 300 passengers daily. Currently, the company's director is manually measuring the water level, as the monitoring station is located far from the remaining water area, and is demanding that all seabed cracks be sealed immediately.
It is worth noting that observers have been monitoring water level fluctuations for decades, and for the first time, they predict these changes will become permanent. After the dry year of 2018, water levels have been dropping every two years and may become an annual occurrence in the future.
