The Saudi newspaper “Al-Riyadh” reported that the referees committee decided to hold a meeting to review Al-Nasr’s second goal against Al-Faisaly, in order to definitively determine who scored it, whether by attributing it to Ronaldo or counting it as an own goal by Al-Faisaly defender Andre Girotto.
The goal sparked widespread controversy among fans, after some observers believed that the ball hit Brazilian Andre Gerotto, Al-Faisaly's defender, and entered the goal by mistake, instead of being credited to Ronaldo who participated in the attack.
Despite this controversy, Saudi referee Abdullah Al-Owaidan credited the goal to the Al-Nassr captain in the official match report, leaving questions continuing about the possibility of changing the identity of the goal scorer.
Al-Nasr achieved a 3-1 victory over Al-Faisaly in the match that brought them together on Friday evening at Al-Majma’ah Sports City Stadium, as part of the eleventh round of the “Roshan” League.
If the record is kept in his name, veteran star Cristiano Ronaldo (41 years old) will have raised his tally to 5 goals scored during 8 matches in the Saudi Professional Football League this season, and will have reached 982 goals during his football career so far, and he is 18 goals away from achieving the dream and reaching the 1000 goal milestone.
