"By making SR and SNT centers for developing Olympic sports, the country will gain several benefits at once," said Mohammad Kusnaeni.
He explained that a number of Indonesian sports had posted quite a worrying record at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan.
Although Indonesia exceeded its target of winning four gold medals at Asia's largest sporting event, sports such as aquatics, athletics, boxing, and cycling, which offer many medals, did not achieve satisfactory results.
These sports are Olympic sports that provide many medals, so countries that are strong in these sports are usually able to compete in the overall medal hunt.
"Ironically, Indonesia is weak in these Olympic sports. Our athletes are less able to compete for medals in swimming and athletics," he said.
