This came during a joint press conference held with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani in the capital, Damascus, as part of an official visit by the Saudi minister.
Bin Farhan said, "We will provide joint financial support to Syrian public sector workers with the State of Qatar," adding, " We want to see Syria in its natural position and status , and we will work together to achieve that goal."
He noted that the meeting discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, reflecting the "fraternal relations" between the two countries, adding, "We look forward to expanding the partnership between the Kingdom and Syria in various fields."
The Saudi minister also stressed that lifting sanctions on Damascus "will contribute to boosting the Syrian economy and will benefit the Syrian people by improving their living conditions."
Bin Farhan arrived in Damascus today on an official visit to meet with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and discuss ways to work together to support Syria's economy. The Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its official Twitter account that "Bin Farhan and a high-level economic delegation arrived in Damascus on an official visit," without specifying its duration.
She noted that the delegation included "Royal Court Advisor Mohammed bin Mazid Al-Tuwaijri, Deputy Minister of Finance Abdul Mohsen bin Saad Al-Khalaf, Assistant Minister of Investment Abdullah bin Ali Al-Dubaikhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Economic and Development Affairs Abdullah bin Fahd bin Zarah, and a number of officials from various sectors."
She added, "The high-level economic delegation will hold a consultation session with their Syrian counterparts to discuss ways to work together to support the Syrian economy, strengthen the development of government institutions, and achieve the aspirations of the brotherly Syrian people."
Later, the Syrian Presidency reported via its Twitter account that Sharaa had received "a high-level Saudi delegation, headed by Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on a visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries."
The visit comes as part of countries' openness to investment and economic opportunities in Syria, following the US and European decisions in May to lift sanctions on Damascus.
Against the backdrop of the ousted Assad regime's violations and massacres in suppressing the Syrian revolution since 2011, the United States, the European Union, and other countries, including Britain, imposed sanctions on the Arab country. These sanctions included asset freezes, halting financial transfers, denying access to technology, and prohibiting transactions with the regime.
On December 8, 2024, Syrian factions took control of the country, ending 61 years of Baath Party rule, including 53 years of Syrian regime control.
