Avila Olmeda's government promotes health strategies in Baja California schools

Mexicali, August 8. The health and well-being of children is a priority for the Baja California government, said Executive Secretary Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda, highlighting that "through national strategies promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and state actions, school environments are being transformed to promote healthy habits and ensure adequate nutrition for girls, boys, and adolescents."

In a press release, he mentioned that "Baja California joins the national strategy 3 x Mi Salud, an initiative that focuses on reducing childhood overweight and obesity through three concrete actions implemented in schools, such as eliminating the consumption of sugary drinks, avoiding ultra-processed foods, and encouraging daily physical activity."

She emphasized that according to the 2023 National Health and Nutrition Survey (ENSANUT), 34.2 percent of girls and boys between the ages of 5 and 11 are overweight or obese, while among adolescents between the ages of 12 and 19, the figure rises to 38.1 percent.

These figures, he stated, confirm the importance of strengthening nutritional education from an early age and consolidating schools as spaces for health and well-being for girls, boys, and young people.
