More men than women die in BC

Tijuana, November 1. For every 100 women who died in Baja California during 2022, 164 men died , the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) announced, in connection with the commemoration of the Day of the Dead.

According to the autonomous agency, 24,693 deaths were recorded in the state last year , of which 61.9 percent were men and 37.8 percent were women.

As for life expectancy, on average women live longer , around 79 years, while the life expectancy for men is 73 years.

The leading causes of death in the state were diseases , with heart disease accounting for 13.6 percent of deaths. This was followed by malignant tumors, with 10.7 percent, and diabetes, with 10.3 percent of deaths.

The majority of deaths are among the elderly, accounting for 46.2 percent. Infant mortality among children under one year of age is 1.9 percent.
