The rehabilitation of the El Naranjo treatment plant is 50% complete.

Ensenada, August 5. Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda announced that the rehabilitation of the El Naranjo Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is 50 percent complete.

During a tour of the facility, he noted that starting in October, the plant's treatment capacity will increase from 500 to 700 liters per second.

The improvements, carried out with custom-made equipment from Germany, Japan, Sweden, and the United States, will make the plant one of the most modern in the state, with an investment of 167 million pesos and a direct benefit to approximately 216,000 people.

"This plant was built approximately 25 years ago, and it hasn't undergone a complete rehabilitation like the one it's undergoing today for about eight or 10 years," the state official stated.

Ensenada has five treatment plants; four are already being rehabilitated with an investment of around 300 million pesos, and a fifth will be serviced in 2025, he specified.

“Maneadero is smaller; next year we are seeking resources to be able to perform the necessary maintenance. El Gallo and Noroeste are already completed, and El Naranjo and El Sauzal are 50 percent complete,” the head of the Executive Branch added.

Once the modernization work is completed, the treated water from El Naranjo will be used to plant flowers and forage in the Maneadero Valley, said CESPE director Alonso Centeno Hernández.
