After losing to Villa, Amorim said MU deserved a better result.
Manchester United (MU) manager Ruben Amorim said his team deserved a better result after suffering a 1-2 defeat against Aston Villa in the 17th week of the 2025/2026 Premier League at Villa Park on Sunday.

Amorim said this was because his team played better, so they didn't deserve to lose. He mentioned that his team played no differently when captain Bruno Fernandes left the match in the second half after the Portuguese player suffered an injury.

"I think we were the better team today. We were unlucky," Amorim said, as quoted on MU's official website on Monday.

"During the match, even without him, we were still the better team. We shut down their transitions quite well, and they played very well too. We did a very good job, although it probably won't be remembered tomorrow because the most important thing is the result," he added.

In this match, Amorim included five academy players in the squad, among those who got playing time were Jack Fletcher, Joshua Zirkzee, and Shea Lacey.

When asked further about his courage in playing these young players, he said, "I just want to win and make sure the players coming through the Academy don't suffer too much. I'm just trying to help the club, whether they're from the Academy or not."
