Diallo's goal came in stoppage time , giving the "Elephants" three precious points and making him the youngest player in Ivory Coast history to score in the World Cup at the age of 23 years and 11 months.

Statistics showed that this goal raised Ivory Coast's goal tally in World Cup history to 14 goals, after previous participations in the 2006, 2010 and 2014 editions, reflecting a clear development in the team's attacking performance.

In post-match comments, Diallo confirmed that his national team is entering the tournament with great ambition, saying that the team "came to make history" and that the victory over Ecuador gives them a strong boost to continue the journey.

The Manchester United star added that the victory over a team of France's caliber during the preparation period gave the players extra confidence, stressing that the team is currently focused on the upcoming matches without dwelling on this achievement.

The Ivory Coast national team finished second in Group E, behind the German national team, which led on goal difference, after Germany had thrashed Curaçao 7-1.
