Commission E of the South Sulawesi Regional People's Representative Council has urged the Education Office to resolve the controversy surrounding the planned resignation of 326 school principals, following rumors of an alleged resignation order ahead of the 2026/2027 New Student Admissions.
"We suggest and recommend that the signing of the principal's resignation letter be stopped. We ask the Head of the Education Office to discuss this matter properly, so as not to cause ripples or negative issues related to the alleged coercion of the principal to resign," said the Chair of Commission E of the South Sulawesi DPRD, Andi Tenri Indah, in Makassar, Friday.
During a public hearing held at the temporary South Sulawesi Regional People's Representative Council office on Jalan Andi Pangeran Pettarani, it was revealed that the alleged resignation orders targeted high school and vocational school principals. In the first phase, 128 principals were asked to resign, followed by 198 in the second phase, bringing the total to 326.
The policy was reportedly triggered by findings by the Supreme Audit Agency of alleged mismanagement of School Operational Assistance funds at a number of high schools in South Sulawesi. A total of 1,532 high schools and vocational schools are registered in South Sulawesi.
However, the BPK actually recommended that these findings be resolved through a loss recovery mechanism. This recommendation has been followed up and resolved by the principals concerned.
