Why did Trump miss the United States vs. Paraguay World Cup match?

White House Chief of Staff Andrew Giuliani announced that US President Donald Trump will not attend the US national team's opening match against Paraguay early Saturday morning at Los Angeles Stadium.

Giuliani said in comments published by the global network "Tribuna": "Trump will not attend the first game."

He added regarding the reason for Trump's absence: "His schedule is extremely busy, but I know he will be closely following everything that happens during the tournament."

He continued: "However, knowing Trump for 30 years, I can assure you of one thing: expect the unexpected. Expect exciting moments from him. It wouldn't surprise me if he became even more involved in World Cup discussions during the tournament."

The United States will be represented at this game by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, and Secretary of Homeland Security Marquin Mullen.

The United States is in Group D, which includes Paraguay, Australia and Turkey, as part of the World Cup group stage.
