Mexico City, September 14.- The Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM) called on parishioners to participate in the march "For Women and for Life" on October 3 in Mexico City , in protest of the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), which last week declared the criminalization of abortion unconstitutional.
He urged bishops across the country to "invite and encourage" as many people as possible to attend the gathering at Sunday Masses and through other appropriate means .
In this regard, the CEM noted that lay people from various social organizations, both Catholic and non-Catholic, have approached them to propose the march in order to demonstrate "the appreciation and protection of the human life of women and their children" in all circumstances.
" As pastors, we are called to accompany, encourage, and support the actions of our faithful so that this gathering of thousands of men and women—within the framework of the law—is an expression born of faith made charity in favor of real solutions to the needs of women and their dignity, while at the same time making visible and respecting the integrity of the right to life of the unborn child."
Last weekend, La Jornada reported that the Archdiocese of Mexico City, headed by Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, rejected the SCJN's decision and lamented that the law in Mexico is moving toward favoring death over life.
In its editorial, the weekly Desde la Fe said that the ruling "generates a more strengthened sexist vision , since it leaves the problem of an unexpected pregnancy to the woman, alone, with all options open and without real possibilities of support to give life.
