The leadership of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and Commission XIII of the DPR RI agreed that singers, songwriters, and performance organizers should be part of the drafting team for the revision of the Copyright Law to prevent royalty polemics.
Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that these parties are clearly stakeholders in the Copyright Law. He explained that they are the actors who experience royalty issues on a daily basis.
"That's about it. Do you agree?" Dasco asked, to which members of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) responded in the affirmative during a consultation meeting with the government and representatives of musicians' organizations at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
In this way, according to him, the musicians and event organizers can provide input to the Indonesian House of Representatives, which is currently formulating the Copyright Law.
"After that, we'll discuss the regulations with them, including the requirements, for example, what percentage it is, and how the application will be used," he said.
According to him, the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN) will later implement the law if the regulation fulfills all the interests of songwriters, artists, and producers, whose rights must be fulfilled.
The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) held a consultation meeting to discuss royalty management and issues related to copyright protection with a number of musicians, from Ariel Noah to Vina Panduwinata, at the parliamentary complex .
Dasco said that currently there are several things that need to be adjusted to the Copyright Law.
