Member of the Legislative Body of the Indonesian House of Representatives Habib Syarief Muhammad proposed adding the phrase 'legal protection' to the Draft Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers.
According to him, this needs to be done to strengthen legal protection, expand the scope of work, and ensure fair termination procedures (PHK) for domestic workers (PRT).
"There needs to be an additional term for legal protection, [providing] legal certainty and legal protection," he said in a statement received.
He also urged that the draft bill explicitly include points on human rights violations against domestic workers so that all forms of violations can be prevented.
In addition, Habib highlighted the use of the word 'includes' in the article regulating the scope of work.
According to him, the use of the word 'covers' is too limiting and has the potential to not protect types of work that are not listed.
He also suggested that the word be replaced with 'among others' or 'among others'.
Finally, Habib proposed strengthening procedures for terminating employment relations by adding the word 'serious' to Article 10 of the PPRT Bill so that it becomes a 'serious violation' in order to prevent unilateral layoffs due to minor violations.
