Mexicali, January 3.- Environmental monitoring to measure air quality is undoubtedly a valuable tool that has been used in this capital since 2018. In Mexicali, the monitors currently only confirm what is already known: that the city is one of the most polluted in the country.
Municipal and state authorities point to them when questioned about concrete actions to reduce air pollution , ignoring the causes of emissions, such as industrial, livestock, and agricultural activity.
When it comes to curbing pollution, monitors don't clean up the environment; they merely provide evidence of unhealthy air quality.
The issue of the monitors involves unassumed government responsibilities, thousands of dollars in funding from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, private interests, and social organizations.
