National Security Council spokesman John Kirby confirmed in a virtual conference that there is no investigation into Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his alleged connections to drug trafficking, according to information published by the newspaper La Opinión .
"There is no investigation into President López Obrador," Kirby said when addressing the issue.
He said the Justice Department should expand its information on investigations into allies of the Mexican president and his election campaigns.
La Jornada asked the Department of Justice for details of the investigation, but it has not responded.
Kirby defended the relationship between President Joe Biden's administration and López Obrador's administration.
The expert on national security and military actions recalled that the DOJ had previously made it "clear" that there was no open investigation into the Mexican president.
“I think the Department of Justice has already made it clear that there is no investigation into President López Obrador,” Kirby said. “And the Department of Justice would have the responsibility to review any allegations.”
The Biden administration official emphasized the relationship with Mexico, including immigration issues.
