A figure reminiscent of a Mayan-Toltec Atlantean has been found in Chichén Viejo

Mexico City, August 24.-  Because an alternative route had to be found to access the so-called Chichén Viejo, in the archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá, in Yucatán, archaeologists found an "interesting piece" that has evocations of the Toltec Mayan figure of an Atlantean, but also has a very suggestive face that links it with Huastec evocations, reported the head of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), Diego Prieto.

Presenting the biweekly report on the progress of anthropological work parallel to the construction of the Mayan Train, the official emphasized that Chichén Viejo was the first city to be built prior to the construction of the city we know today and is considered one of the new seven wonders of the world.

During this Thursday's morning press conference with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Prieto also presented a video about the Palenque archaeological site in Chiapas, highlighting the discovery of several skeletons and other artifacts, such as small knives, that will allow for a deeper study of the populations that settled in this region during the splendor of the ancient Mayan culture.

The archaeological work being carried out alongside the construction of the Mayan Train, indicated the INAH director, has resulted in the registration of 54,232 properties of varying nature: housing units, building foundations, houses or other structures, small squares, palaces, temples, vaulted buildings, white roads, and a large number of walls that delimit properties, especially in the northern and eastern parts of the peninsula.
