Rafael Caro Quintero pleaded not guilty in a New York court to drug trafficking charges that could lead to his execution, after being handed over to U.S. authorities yesterday along with 28 other drug lords as part of the largest bilateral collaboration in years.
Caro Quintero, 72, pleaded not guilty to charges of running a criminal enterprise, drug trafficking, and unlawful use of firearms at a hearing before U.S. District Judge Robert Levy in Brooklyn.
The notorious drug trafficker spent 28 years in prison in Mexico for the 1985 murder of former DEA agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, although he denied involvement.
