There is dialogue with the US to avoid the impact on employment from tariffs: Sheinbaum

Mexico City.  In light of the United States' formalization of tariffs on the automotive industry, Mexico is engaged in intense negotiations with a view to a general announcement on this matter by April 2nd, to avoid major impacts on the national economy, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced. She considered that this policy impacts the levels of integration between the two countries, hence the impact it has had on U.S. automotive companies, which have suffered losses on the stock markets.

He emphasized that bilateral economic interaction is among the highest in the world, which is why we complement each other in automobile production. He noted that this decision primarily affects companies such as Ford and General Motors, among others.

“We don't compete with each other, we complement each other. These talks between Marcelo Erbard and the Secretary of Commerce are to ensure that this trade integration between Mexico and the United States doesn't affect us, in order to protect jobs in both countries. The talks are ongoing. On April 2, the United States will announce other tariffs because these, which they've already announced for the entire world, affect Mexico more, where there's greater integration between countries.”

He noted that he met yesterday with the teams from the Ministries of Finance and Economy to fine-tune the comprehensive proposal Mexico is preparing for next week. He noted that the Secretary of Economy arrived last night, so they will only discuss the outcome of his efforts in Washington. This plan we've been working on has been in place for some time; the United States has significantly changed its position.
