Incomprehensible that the "very intelligent" Argentine people voted for Milei: AMLO

Responding to accusations of "ignorance" leveled at him by the Argentine president, the far-right leader Javier Milei, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador indicated that he still doesn't understand why Argentines, "being so intelligent," voted for a figure who "disdains the people."

The marked differences between the two leaders escalated with the Mexican's rebuttal, who also criticized the South American for considering Pope Francis a "communist" and "a representative of the Evil One on earth." At the same time, he supported his friend and Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, whom the Argentine also attacked.

On social media, the Mexican president addressed Milei's disparaging remarks about him during an interview with CNN en Español—which will be broadcast next Sunday—where he stated, "It's a compliment that an ignoramus like López Obrador speaks ill of me; it elevates me." He also called Petro a "terrorist murderer."

On his X account, the Mexican president retorted: “Milei claimed that I am 'ignorant' because I called him a 'conservative fascist'. He is right: I still do not understand how Argentines, being so intelligent, voted for someone who is not accurate, who despises the people and who dared to accuse his countryman Francisco of being a 'communist' and 'representative of the Evil One on earth', when he is the most Christian pope and defender of the poor that I have ever known or heard of.”
