Tijuana, July 8. It is necessary to strengthen fumigation in the eastern part of Tijuana, where the highest number of rickettsia cases have occurred, said Governor Marian del Pilar Ávila Olmeda at the start of a health service and prevention campaign for this disease, caused by fleas and ticks in domestic animals.
Visiting Ignacio Roel Elementary School, located in the Villa del Campo neighborhood, he stated, "We are going to carry out the necessary fumigations. This is one of the areas in Tijuana where we have unfortunately had the highest number of rickettsia cases , which is why we need to strengthen fumigation throughout this area."
The governor emphasized that the state government, through the Ministry of Health and its mobile health caravans, is serving the most vulnerable neighborhoods with the goal of preventing the spread of fleas and ticks on domestic animals, since the bites of these insects can cause this disease, which can be fatal in humans.
During the tour , he noted the first-class service and dignified treatment given to the pets brought in by their owners to be sterilized, thus preventing the puppies and kittens from ending up on the streets.
All services provided were completely free of charge and included, in addition to pet sterilizations, rabies vaccinations and tick repellent. Residents also benefited from medical consultations, hepatitis and HIV testing, X-rays, mammograms, and chronic disease screening.
Watching Over Our School
The event served as a framework for the national launch of the "Monitoring Our School" and "Close, Turn Off, and Unplug" school programs. These programs, with the support of parents and security authorities , will be activated starting this Monday and continuing throughout the school year to protect and maintain elementary schools in the state.
"Handing them the keys means making them owners of these facilities, which are for their enjoyment, pleasure, and development," the governor stated after symbolically handing over the keys to the school to representatives of the morning shift parents' association at Ignacio Roel Elementary School.
