The Kutai Kartanegara Regency Government East Kalimantan, believes that the Kumala Island Waterboom, currently under construction, will become a tourist attraction so that in the future the destination can generate local revenue through levies.
"The construction of this waterboom will certainly be the main attraction of Kumala Island, which is why construction has been continuing on a multi-year basis, carried out in stages since 2023," said Kukar Deputy Regent Rendi Solihin in Tenggarong on Thursday.
According to him, since its construction began in 2023, the water park on a small island located in the middle of the Mahakam River, in Tenggarong, has been under construction and is targeted for completion in 2026.
He continued, the existence of supporting facilities for this tourist destination is one of the modern tourist attractions, even said to be the most complete in East Kalimantan, so that it will be able to increase the number of tourist visits, both local and from outside the region.
This belief is based on the level of tourist visits to Tenggarong and its surroundings, which have so far come mostly from outside the area, especially residents from Samarinda and its surroundings, so that with the addition of facilities on Kumala Island, many residents will be interested in coming.
"Once the waterboom is complete, Kumala Island will be a perfect destination for families, whether they are families without children or families with children, as Kumala Island offers a wide selection of attractions that are everyone's favorite," he said.
A number of attractive facilities on Kumala Island include a wave pool, a lazy river, a children's play area, an adult pool, and modern rides that can compete with other destinations.
