The East Jakarta (Jaktim) Environmental Agency (Sudin LH) has officially closed the operations of the temporary shelter (TPS) around the Simple Rental Flats (Rusunawa) of the Small Industrial Village (PIK) 2, Penggilingan Subdistrict, Cakung.
"The final cleaning was carried out on Wednesday (7/1), and we officially closed the TPS in RW 10, Penggilingan Subdistrict. Furthermore, residents' waste disposal was diverted to the Rawa Terate TPS," said Head of the Cakung District Environmental Implementation Unit, Encep Suryana, in Jakarta, Friday.
The closure was carried out after residents complained about the TPS emitting an unpleasant odor due to the pile of garbage.
The former TPS land was then converted into a green open space that can be used by the community and residents of the PIK 2 Flats.
"To address this (garbage odor), we decided to close the TPS and divert waste disposal to another location," said Encep.
He explained that the landfill had been thoroughly cleaned. In the final collection phase, his team deployed eight garbage trucks to transport the remaining pile of waste to the Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) in Bekasi.
Furthermore, to prevent the TPS from being used again, the East Jakarta Environmental Sub-dept. put up a banner prohibiting dumping of garbage at the location.
Encep also hopes that the public will comply with this appeal so that environmental cleanliness and comfort are maintained.
