Police have revealed the modus operandi of two perpetrators of aggravated theft in the form of motorbike theft in the Pondok Kopi area, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta (Jaktim), namely looking for work.
"But that's the modus operandi they employ. So, if they're looking for work on the streets, there's none, and that should be clear. So, the conclusion is that they did it on purpose," said Duren Sawit Police Chief, Commissioner Sutikno, in a press conference at the Duren Sawit Police Headquarters.
It is known that two men from Bogor failed to carry out their intention to steal a motorbike in the Pondok Kopi area because they were caught by the victim and local residents.
The aggravated theft case occurred on Thursday (8/1) at around 08.30 WIB on Jalan Robusta, RT 05 RW 11, Pondok Kopi Subdistrict.
Sutikno said the theft was carried out by two perpetrators with the initials MN (27) and M (23).
The two of them had the intention of stealing spontaneously after seeing a Yamaha NMAX motorbike parked in front of a minimarket with the key still hanging.
"The perpetrators' modus operandi was that while walking on Jalan Robusta, they saw a motorcycle parked at a minimarket with the key still attached. From there, the intention arose to steal the vehicle," explained Sutikno.
However, the two perpetrators were apprehended at the scene with the help of local residents. They were then taken to the Duren Sawit Police Station for further questioning.
Sutikno said the perpetrator had claimed he was looking for work while roaming the area. This excuse was part of his strategy to manipulate the situation and seek out opportunities.
"They claim they're looking for work, but that's their modus operandi. There aren't any jobs on the streets. That's our conclusion: they're deliberately looking for opportunities," said Sutikno.
